Pompei Journal - Kendyl Young
A special note from the artist, Kendyl Young:
"McManus & Morgan Fine Art Paper has been in business for 103 years and is the longest-running paper business in Los Angeles. It's housed in a gorgeous Spanish Colonial Revival building, and the proprietor, Gary Wolin, knows more about paper and the art traditions in Los Angeles than anyone I've met.
Shopping there is a treasure hunt because, while there are gems found nowhere else, the organization is haphazard, at best. I found this sheet of handmade paper from Thailand hidden on a back shelf, and it is BREATHTAKING. Warm yellows and dusky reds are shot through with bright turquoise and swirls of iridescent copper glimmer in the light.
This is a VERY special journal.
I used quality 98lb multimedia paper that handles watercolor surprisingly well. I've also used carbon black ink with no bleed-through. Pencil, graphite, and gouache should all be fine. I’ve even used Mod Podge to collage elements onto pages.
There are 8 signatures delivering lay-flat pages and 96 surfaces. Signatures are sewn with waxed thread using a mixture of Coptic stitch and French weave techniques."
